President Trump Announces Major Trade Deal with the European Union, EU Commits to Investing Additional $600 Billion in the US
On July 28, President Donald Trump announced that a trade agreement has been established between the United States and the European Union (EU), which stipulates a fixed import tariff of 15% on goods from the EU to the US.
According to the agreement, the EU commits to importing a large amount of energy from the United States with a total value of up to $750 billion, and investing $600 billion in the US economy. Additionally, the EU also agreed to expand bilateral trade with the United States on a zero-tariff principle, facilitating the flow of goods and services between the two leading world economies.
In a statement to the press, President Trump emphasized: "They have agreed to open their economies to trade with zero tariffs." He also added that the EU will "purchase a large amount of military equipment from the US," marking an important step in defense cooperation between the two blocs.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed this agreement and affirmed that the 15% tariff will be applied equally to all imported goods from the EU to the United States. She believes that this move will help "rebalance the trade relationship" between the two sides, which had been tense due to previous tariff disputes.
