How to Participate? Is It Worth Participating?

Before Linea's Token Generation Event (TGE) has arrived, MetaMask's "Odyssey" activity is already on the horizon.
Recently, the web version of MetaMask Portfolio launched a Promotions section, listing multiple MetaMask tasks, which the community views as the MetaMask Odyssey activity.
MetaMask Mission Overview
The MetaMask Missions will last three weeks, from July 21 at 21:00 to August 9 at 10:00. The sponsor of this MetaMask Mission is ConsenSys Software Inc.
Participants need to freely mint an Non-Fungible Token on the Linea chain as a "ticket", and then complete a series of tasks to gain lottery chances. Tasks include token tasks (exchanging or cross-chain specific tokens) and network tasks (performing 10 exchanges or cross-chain activities on a specific network).
More lottery chances mean higher winning probability. Rewards are distributed through a lottery, with participants earning lottery chances by completing tasks. However, the weekly prize pool is only $5,000. Winners are randomly selected through an on-chain randomization process by smart contract, with the list drawn after each week ends.
How to Participate?
1. Freely mint the mission pass Non-Fungible Token on the Linea network (gas fees required), which is a prerequisite for participating in the activity. After minting, users can unlock weekly mission access. Minting this Non-Fungible Token automatically grants one lottery chance each week.
2. First Week Tasks (completing all tasks activates a 2x multiplier):
- Ethereum network AUSDC task: Exchange AUSDC on the Ethereum network, cross-chain AUSDC to Ethereum from other networks, or cross-chain AUSDC from Ethereum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 10-49.99 AUSDC earns 1 lottery chance, 50-99.99 AUSDC earns 5 lottery chances, and over 100 AUSDC earns 10 lottery chances.
- Ethereum network ONDO task: Exchange ONDO on the Ethereum network, cross-chain ONDO to Ethereum from other networks, or cross-chain ONDO from Ethereum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 10-49.99 ONDO earns 1 lottery chance, 50-99.99 ONDO earns 5 lottery chances, and over 100 ONDO earns 10 lottery chances.
- Linea network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the Linea network earns 10 lottery chances.
- Ethereum network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the Ethereum network earns 10 lottery chances.
First week prize pool: $5,000 in assets, with winners receiving $500 worth of ONDO or $500 worth of AUSDC.
3. Second Week Tasks (completing all tasks activates a 2x multiplier):
- Arbitrum network EURE task: Exchange EURE on the Arbitrum network, cross-chain EURE to Arbitrum from other networks, or cross-chain EURE from Arbitrum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 10-49.99 EURE earns 1 lottery chance, 50-99.99 EURE earns 5 lottery chances, and over 100 EURE earns 10 lottery chances.
- Arbitrum network LDO task: Exchange LDO on the Arbitrum network, cross-chain LDO to Arbitrum from other networks, or cross-chain LDO from Arbitrum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 10-49.99 LDO earns 1 lottery chance, 50-99.99 LDO earns 5 lottery chances, and over 100 LDO earns 10 lottery chances.
- Optimism network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the Optimism network earns 10 lottery chances.
- Arbitrum network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the Arbitrum network earns 10 lottery chances.
Second week prize pool: $5,000 in assets, with winners receiving $500 worth of EURE or $500 worth of LDO.
4. Third Week Tasks (completing all tasks activates a 2x multiplier)
- Arbitrum network COMP task: Exchange COMP on the Arbitrum network, cross-chain COMP to Arbitrum from other networks, or cross-chain COMP from Arbitrum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 0.2-0.99 COMP earns 1 lottery chance, 1-1.99 COMP earns 5 lottery chances, and over 2 COMP earns 10 lottery chances.
- Arbitrum network WBTC task: Exchange WBTC on the Arbitrum network, cross-chain WBTC to Arbitrum from other networks, or cross-chain WBTC from Arbitrum to other networks. Exchanging or cross-chaining 0.0001-0.00049 WBTC earns 1 lottery chance, 0.0005-0.00099 WBTC earns 5 lottery chances, and over 0.001 WBTC earns 10 lottery chances.
- BSC network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the BSC network earns 10 lottery chances.
- Polygon network task: Performing 10 cross-chain or token exchanges on, to, or from the Polygon network earns 10 lottery chances.
Third week prize pool: $5,000 in assets, with winners receiving $500 worth of EURE or $500 worth of LDO.
Note: All interactions must be completed through MetaMask's built-in native Swap or Bridge functions. Only exchanges and cross-chain activities using these two built-in functions will be counted. Using third-party dApps (even when accessed through MetaMask) will not earn lottery chances.
Is It Worth Participating?
As mentioned, the MetaMask Missions prize pool is only $5,000 per week, with a single reward of $500 and only 10 winners per week. The author's mission pass Non-Fungible Token, minted around 15:25, had a number of 42,600. If the sole goal is to win the lottery, the cost-effectiveness of participation is very limited. For users who only complete the Non-Fungible Token minting (1 lottery chance per week), the probability is close to zero. To gain more lottery chances, each exchange or cross-chain transaction requires a 0.875% platform fee and gas fees.
However, the community speculates that this activity might be related to a future MetaMask token airdrop. ConsenSys founder Joseph Lubin previously responded to a user's question about whether MetaMask would launch a token, stating that ConsenSys has short-term and medium-term strategic plans involving the protocolization of existing products and other projects, and that Web3 protocols typically require token support. Lubin emphasized that LINEA would be the first to launch a token, with more tokens to follow, and protocols would achieve synergistic effects.
Combining Lubin's statement, MetaMask's token issuance seems inevitable. This activity requires users to interact through MetaMask's built-in functions, and the data is likely to be incorporated into a future airdrop "qualification assessment system" (such as interaction frequency, participation duration, network coverage, etc.).
Of course, whether to participate depends on individual positioning and cost-time considerations. If you are long-term optimistic about the ConsenSys ecosystem (Linea, MetaMask, etc.), it might be worth a try. If you're not interested in the lottery mechanism, complex tasks, or MetaMask's airdrop prospects, you can decisively opt out.
If you decide to participate, you can reduce costs to a large extent through the following methods:
1. Try to avoid Ethereum mainnet tasks, or only complete necessary operations during low gas fee periods;
2. Network tasks (10 cross-chain or exchanges) can be done with very small amounts.
